What we know about Sparta? The ancient state, somewhere in the southern tip of the Balkan. Another - the film "300", or rather two films. Who are the Spartans? Why they were treated with respect and fear? Not only because it was a wonderful warriors and military training of young inventors, but also for the public education system, special aesthetics and lifestyle.
A halo of myths and legends formed around Sparta in antiquity period. In addition, some Greeks denounced and ridiculed Sparta. Others - surprised usages and customs of the Spartans, admired military strength and fortitude. Plato and Aristotle saw in Sparta sample stability worthy of emulation.
The history of Sparta is known to us only in fragments. Modern historians as ancient as are interpretations and fabrications. To a large extent the sources of bias and contain a variety of fiction and speculation.
When we clear the layer upon layer of history of fantasy and slander, this Sparta opens before us - a beautiful creation of the ancients, which we can admire and for which we can learn to love their homeland, to protect it from external enemies and internal strife.
